Review: Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas

“We were perfect together. Until we met.”

Misha

I can’t help but smile at the words in her letter. She misses me.

In fifth grade, my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student, Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.

It didn’t take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever…

And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us.

Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there’s one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She’s the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?

Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name’s Ryen, loves Gallo’s pizza, and worships her iPhone. What are the chances?

F*ck it. I need to meet her.

I just don’t expect to hate what I find.

Ryen

He hasn’t written in three months. Something’s wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.

Without him around, I’m going crazy. I need to know someone is listening. It’s my own fault. I should’ve gotten his number or picture or something.

He could be gone forever.

Or right under my nose, and I wouldn’t even know it.

Oh, HI!!

Ladies & Gentlemen are you ready to rummmble read one of the best books of 2016?!?!?!?!?! Cause, hawt dayum you guys!! Penelope Douglas is on top of her writing game! Never ceasing to blow my mind book after book, always one upping her last works. I'm essentially at a loss for words after finishing Punk 57 in all it's poignant potency- meshing reality and fiction into one hell of a read!

This fangirl is down for the count and out cold!
Penelope for the TKO!

So many emotions were evoked with the flip of each page. Normally I devour Douglas' books but with this one I had to pace myself. It's complex and profound, almost suffocating at times, trudging up past experiences and memories; those meant to be left buried in tragic teenage times. Oh the joyous tribulations of adolescence and finding ones self. The messages within are of importance, beyond significant. Punk 57 is a cruel yet powerful story of Ryen's struggles to fit in yet still be true to herself.

"We've been here before. The uncertainty, the self-hate, the powerlessness... it's all so familiar."

It's not all austere. With 'Penelope Douglas style' twists and turns, your heart will be racing, your jaw will be dropping. You might end up dropping your pantaloos too or end up sliding off a chair *wink* Nobody does teenage sexy times quite like the Douglasinator! Yeah, you know exactly what I'm talking about lol *fans self*

“We were perfect together. Until we met.”

GAH! What I wouldn't do to be able to read this again for the first time.

Review: Misconduct by Penelope Douglas

Former tennis player Easton Bradbury is trying to be the best teacher she can be, trying to reach her bored students and trying to forget her past. What brought her to this stage in her life isn’t important. She can’t let it be. But now one parent-teacher meeting may be her undoing…

Meeting Tyler Marek for the first time makes it easy for Easton to see why his son is having trouble in school. The man knows how to manage businesses and wealth, not a teenage boy. Or a young teacher, for that matter, though he tries to. And yet…there is something about him that draws Easton in—a hint of vulnerability, a flash of attraction, a spark that might burn.

Wanting him is taboo. Needing him is undeniable. And his long-awaited touch will weaken Easton’s resolve—and reveal what should stay hidden…

5 Hot steamy stars!

OH. MY. GOSH. I absolutely loved this story. It made me feel all mushy and lovey dovey inside when I finished it. I never wanted it to end and now I'm feeling sad that it has. I will most certainly have a huge book hangover for a while to come.

I haven't had this strong of feelings for two characters in a long time. I completely adored Easton & Tyler!

Easton is sharp tongued. She is not afraid to tell you how she feels and she is not going to take any crap from anyone! Especially Mr. snotty, hoity toity Tyler Marek.

" Two things could be assumed about Marek: He expected to get everything he wanted, and he thought he just had. Idiot."

Tyler Marek is your typical powerful business man who is use to getting what he wants, when he wants it but he can’t just have Easton and that drives him completely crazy!

While Tyler was very bossy, cocky and confident he also has a very sweet side that I couldn’t get enough. I swear this man could charm any womans panties right off in a matter of seconds and when he wasn’t being sweet he was a dirty talker. (I looove my dirty talkers!) Everything that came out of this man’s mouth gave me butterflies.

" I don't want to make trouble for you, but I don't care about the campaign if I can't have you. I don't fucking care."

Tyler & Easton’s banter was fun, their spark was electrifying and their intimate moments were OFF THE CHARTS HOT! This story also had a serious aspect to it that I think all of us struggle with at times. It can be hard to leave the past behind and start a new but it is also very important for us to find balance in our everyday lives and put the people who mean the most to us first.

" You can do a couple of things and succeed, or you can try to do fifteen things and fail at all of them.

Review: Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

Erika

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Michael

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

Unprotected.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

OH MY GOD…

OH MY GOD…

I’m totally speechless after reading this book!
I think I need a moment to catch my breath and stop my heart from racing.
This one was one hell of a roller coaster ride, right from the start.

It was

Intense…

Gripping…

Chilling…

Hot…

And all consuming.

I had no idea who to trust. No idea who I liked. No idea who to fear. I think I may need some therapy after reading this story. The only thing I am going to say about this book is BUY IT! I went into only reading the synopsis and that’s all and I am extremely happy that I did. I loved that I didn’t know what was coming or what was going to happen.

Penelope Douglas really out did herself writing this one!! This was an exceptional read. Thank you for the ride Penelope!

Omg omg wtf just happened!! This is one of the best books I read in 2015. If you like total mindfucks this is the book for you!!! I didn't know what to think or have a clue what was going to happen next! If you are going to start this book make sure to clear ur schedule because you are not going to want to put this book down (besides the odd time you want to throw it across the room) Penelope was one of my go to authors in the first place but she really outdid herself with this one. I floved it!!
