Review: Beautifully Broken by Laura Lee

I knew he would ruin me from the moment we met. Everything about the man screamed confidence. Sensuality. Intelligence. Worldliness. But it was how he saved me that ruined me most.

Through him, I learned to end my path of self-destruction. I no longer needed to numb the pain with mindless one-night-stands and drunken blackouts. He made me feel worthy. Treasured. Optimistic about my future.

Here I stand four years later, in a coffee shop a world away, still broken…but beautifully so. My scars no longer hold me back. Instead, they give me strength and enrich my appreciation for the good things in life. I have hopes and dreams…faith that anything is possible. I am no longer the lost little girl fighting for survival. I have direction. I have courage. I am not without possibility.

I’ll always have Gavin to thank for that—Mr. Cooper, I remind myself. That’s who he is to me now: just a former teacher. I know what you’re thinking, but don’t worry. I was eighteen when we first met. Legally, we did nothing wrong. Morally? Well, I guess that depends on how flexible your morals are

My name is Kat and this is my story.

 5 'Surviving isn't living.' Stars

Those that know me know I am borderline obsessed with this student/teacher trope. For some it may be a guilty pleasure... but for me, I shout it loud and I shout it proud! I love the taboo-ness! It makes my little black heart pitter-patter unlike any other trope out there. And before the naysayers get their panties in a twist...dun...dun...dun SURPRISE!!!! Everyone is of legal age!

Beautifully Broken is in a student/teacher league of it's own! Sure, I'm always down for the wham, bam, bend me over your desk and make sure to drill your lesson hard into me reads BUT this book is so much more than I could have ever imagined and hoped for. Yes, it was fan-freaking-tabooulous with the sexy times! It was heartbreaking, yet beautiful. Simply haunting. Not many leave me at a loss for words but Laura Lee certainly did a number on my heart with this one!! Of course there were little chuckles here and there at just the perfect time to help balance out the intensity of EVERYTHING.

From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, get ready to be inundated with ALL. THE. FEELS! They flow deep and they flow hard. Man, oh, man. This hangover is going to suck!!

For Kathleen Kennedy life hasn't been all sunshine and lollipops.  Unless you call having a crack whore for a mother and being bounced around the foster care system and screwing around with guys to numb the pain a good time. Yeah, she's a messed up jumbled ball of severely f*cked up.

'This man makes me want things that I can't have. He makes me want to tell him everything, to release all the ugly memories I have inside of me, just to have someone who knows what I've been through. Someone who can comfort me when I have nightmares. Someone who can help me glue all the broken pieces back together.'

Its by far the most complex student/teacher story line I've ever read, but Laura Lee writes this story with such finesse and sophistication you can't help but get sucked in AND then suddenly your favourite trope is sitting on the back burner because the rest of it is just so mindblowingly overwhelming. You can't look away from the book. Sure at times parts are a train-wreck of obliterated emotions but everything in the book leads to such a beautiful and perfect HEA... GAH! I just can't even right now. There's just so much to this book, so many layers! I can't even begin to sort out everything right now. The high from this book is just completely euphoric.

This book needs to be read! It's not all sex and champagne. There's a meaty layer of real life issues dished out in Beautifully Broken!!

I can't say enough great things about this book!
I love it!
I love it!
I love it!

"You're so perfect," he whispers.

This was a cute friends to lovers story with a twist. The characters meet in college and become best friends. I loved their friendship with one another. Their banter back and forth was effortless and you could really feel the friendship/ love they had for one another. As the years progress they both start to have stronger feelings for one another but both are afraid to admit it for different reasons.

One deal and one night later changes everything for both of these characters and circumstances take them away from one another for an extended period of time. However when they reconnect their friendship will be put to the test and secrets will be revealed.

I liked the realness of this story, it wasn’t rushed. It wasn’t insta love. They met and formed a true friendship over years and I felt they both knew one another really well. When things transpired and secrets came out later I felt like the characters were able to be adults and handle the situation as such. I thought the storyline was good, I felt the characters were real and they were very funny at times. This was a really great read that I enjoyed right from the start all the way through to the end. The writing and the story flowed well and held my interest right up until the very last page.

4.5 free balling, balls to the wall stars!

Love at first sight and friend-zoned from day one-- whats a manwhore to do? Well, they become best friends with the hottest chick they've ever laid eyes on, duh! Fail proof plan, right? HAH! Throughout their college years Devyn(heroine) and Riley(hero) are inseparable..well, until that last week of senior year.

"Okay, here's the thing. I'm a virgin. And you, you need to relieve me of that."

Yep! You read that right!-- the hot virgin and manwhore are BFF's. After some wine, dining, 69ing and the most mind blowing sex of their lives-- the one thing that should have brought them together only tears them apart. To opposite sides of the country!!! Unanswered calls and texts later, a change of phone number..without closure its hard to move on BUT possible if you want to live in a shell of your former self. Or have a lack luster sex life due to the curse of the Magical Pussy!!!!!

Five years, lots of tears and heartbreak later the two are again residing in the same city! EEEEEEEEEEP!!! After a random chance encounter they're back in each others lives AND this is when things get interesting ;)

Deal Breakers is the first book of Laura Lee's that I've read and I reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaallll

lllllly enjoyed it! A LOT! I'm a complete sucker for a friends to lovers/Second chance romance story. Laura has definitely gained a new fan through this book! Although the storyline was somewhat predictable at times I found myself completely absorbed in it. Her writing it flawless, the hero, heroine and secondary characters felt like family and I couldn't help but fall in love with them. And Nathan, what a little spitfire he was! I was also thrilled beyond belief to find out that there are more books planned!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!

A quick read that's sweet, funny, romantic and heartbreaking with a HEA that will make your heart pitter patter, swoon and melt!

"Everything is perfect. I couldn't ask for anything else."
Ditto!
