Review: Bullies Like Me by Lindy Zart

If you can make it out of Enid High School alive, you can make it through anything.

Alexis is the new girl at school, and she’s ruthlessly bullied. Hopeless, and drowning in her present reality, she takes pills—lots of pills. She’s sent to a mental health facility, where she meets a boy. Only the boy can’t save her, and no one can save her from herself.

Nick has secrets. He wants to open up to Alexis, but there’s the dead boy who haunts him. In his dreams. While he’s awake. He wants to be brave, but he can’t tell her about his past, and he can’t leave the facility.

Melanie rules over the school, until a nobody named Lexie tries to disrupt her reign. She won’t allow that. She also can’t stop it. She plummets into notoriety, but she’s determined to take them all with her. The girl, the boy, and their secrets.

'They take, and they break, and they are without regret. They need to repent. Anyone they've hurt deserves an apology. I'll make sure they get it, even if I'm the only one who witnesses it.'

It's not often a book will bring me to my knees, rattle and shake my soul until it shatters. Bullies Like Me is a profound and raw telling of a very real and thriving epidemic that plagues the youth of present and past, an issue that is not to be ignored. I commend Lindy Zart for stepping away from the popular reads of today to feed us with one full of such soul shattering and heart wrenching substance. The emotions this one evoked within made my heart bleed and my soul cry.

'I feel like an interloper in my own skin and the real me is suffocating, struggling to exist beneath the misconceptions. She is losing- I am losing. And I can't help but think: what's this life for?'

With the many facets, levels, and depths of despair, feelings of hopelessness and glimmers of hope throughout. Lindy left no subject untouched. Told from multiple points of view, Bullies Like Me navigates through the lives of Alexis/Lexie, Nick, and Melanie, giving us a glimpse into the life of the bullied and the bully. It's quite disheartening and cruel as the reader delves deeper into the story line. Most definitely heavy content to take in. If suicide is a trigger, steer clear. There's no dance with death, it happens... or happened. You'd have to read to find out the finer details of what I imply.

'Twisted smiles and mocking laughter and beautiful ugly girls. Blackness. Hopelessness. The sensation of drowning in a version of myself I can't escape.'

Retribution, redemption, it all seems so simple in theory. When mixed with life and teens this book takes on a whole new game! Even though this one put me through the emotion wringer, I can't say enough amazing things about BLM. I live to read books just like this!! As morbid as it sounds, they feed my soul and give me hope for the world we live in and for future generations to stop the vicious cycle! Bullies like me was PHENOMENAL! Emotionally gripping and charged, you won't be able to put this book down until it's been devoured. Lindy Zart wrecked me with her words, in the most amazing way that only one hell of a well written book can!

'Death is easy; life is cruel. I still want life.'

Review: Checkmate: This Is Love by Kennedy Fox

Viola Fisher is the epitome of perfection.
She despises my one-night stands and mocks my less-than-classy habits.
She’s smart, beautiful, and too good to be true.
And I want her.

If she were anyone else, I’d have made my move years ago, but considering she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s always been off-limits. Not to mention how much she loathes my very existence.

Hating me is her religion, but needing her is mine. Her sexy curves and filthy smart mouth make me want her even more, and I’m more determined than ever to change her mind.

I’ll prove I’m done playing games.
But until then, we’ll continue to play by her rules.
Viola Fisher may have won the battle, but the war isn’t over yet.

Checkmate, princess.

4 'My world is rocking on its axis.' Stars

Well, well, well. What do we have here? The deliciously sexy, super anticipated follow up to Checkmate: This is War! After the devils of the writing world, better known as Kennedy Fox, left us hanging literally and figuratively with that cliffy from hell, barely hanging on to our sanity, gasping for breath. They're back with a vengeance. After all, they're winning at this writing game. It wasn't titled Checkmate for nothing! And winning they are. Holy! Crap! CHECKMATE!!! I must admit, I love the direction they're going with this!

'She's never taken my shit, and she's the only girl to challenge me at every damn opportunity. Perhaps that's what kept the fire burning all these years, but I'm done playing those games.'

Battered bodies, bruised egos and broken bones, oh my! Travis King has some explaining to do!!!!! Fortunately for him, Viola Fisher has decided to brush it off and look past this little flub on the radar, deciding to trust. After all, she knows Travis right down to his soul.

More tests are tossed their way throughout Checkmate: This is Love. The ups and downs continue, ever moving the story along at warp speed. This is one book I couldn't read fast enough! It's most certainly a saucy little read, that's infuriating at times! Frustrating! But oh my good god I could not get enough!

"Because I'm not like those guys in your romance novels. I'm the guy that'll fuck you against the wall, wrap my hand around your throat, and pull you hair as you scream out my name. I'm the guy that'll have you waking up on a bare mattress because we fucked the sheets off it in the middle of the night. I'm the guy that can't sing a tune to save my soul, but I'd tell you every single day of my life how much you mean to me."

Viola and Travis' characters mature a lot this installment. Gone are his man-whoreish ways, along with her overtly hateful and hurtful attitude towards Travis. The sexual tension is so much more intense than ever between Traviola. It's combustable! These two are so perfect for each other I just can't even... just can't freakin' even! The feels and emotions are strong throughout Love. Gah!!! You really can't help but get caught up in the chaoa and love within.

'No one will ever be able to take this away from us, because what we have it more than a stupid crush or a one-night stand. It's real. It's love in the rawest form.'

And that Happy Ever After... Swooooooooooooooooooooon!

Review: Womanizer by Katy Evans

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans comes a brand new contemporary romance. WOMANIZER is a full standalone, and no other books in the series need to be read.

You've seen the headlines: Womanizing billionaire player! Watch out! Stay away!

We were just two strangers. Facing a forbidden attraction, a chemical connection. Neither of us expected or wanted it to amount to more.
But I had never been drawn to a guy the way I was drawn to this one: my brother's best friend, and CEO of the company where I interned.
Even knowing I should stay away, I proved to be too human, after all.
The chemistry was amazing.
The laughs were incredible.
I opened up to him in more ways than I'd opened up to anyone before.
But sex was as far as I'd go.
Just sex because he was too irresistible.
Just sex because I wouldn't be falling for him.
Just sex because I'd leave in three months, and I'd like for my brother not to kill me, and for nobody to find out he was my wicked little secret.
He wasn't the One.
He was just a womanizer.
But for a time, he would be mine

A Manwhore, Ladies Man & Womanizer walk into a bar...ok, I suck at jokes so lets try a review lol

This series! GAH! It's one of my top 5. I simply cannot get enough of these fun loving, super sexxxy men! I could read them forever-ever and never bore. Katy Evans has penned one heck of a delicious group of players who find their forever girl, the one who ruins them for all others, the one to tame their wild, wanton, player ways. The one who ultimately wins their heart. Its a swoon-fest page turner of feels and emotions from start to finish!

"He's like the testament to singleness. All his friends are taken, so now he's the last man standing."

Callan Carmichael, a name synonymous with wealth and being a merciless businessman. A name notorious around Chicago due to his Womanizing ways. Calculated, thorough, a stickler for perfection, and giving nothing better than your best- in life and in all matters relating to Carma, his conglomerate of multi billion-dollar companies. The man has a reputation. Heck, I was a bit intimidated at first. You know who wasn't, not the least bit intimidated? Olivia Roth. Yes, that's right. Tahoe's little sister *gets all giddy* OMG! YES! YES! YES!!!!

'I'm being kissed from the inside out. His hunger only feeds mine.'

How Livvy and Callan come to meet is definitely like a page out of a book! The innocence of Liv combined with EVERYTHING the encompasses Callan, her Hot Smoker Guy. You guys, I can't even right now! I was exactly like a giddy little girl on Christmas morning while devouring this latest installment in the series. Goofy smile plastered on my face, full on body chills and the fluttering and pitter-patter of my heart. Love is not an adequate enough word to describe my feelings about Womanizer! I fell hard and I fell completely in love with Callan and Livvy, but especially Callan! So much so, I'm considering changing my last name to Carmichael. I think it would have a nice ring to it.

'This is scandalous. This little secret thing between us. A little bit dangerous. I know it's a little bit dangerous. I don't know what it is that we've started, but I'm waiting for it. My temperature is rising.'

This is a deliciously sexy story of facing your fears, realizing that sometimes its ok to break the mold. To re-write your plans as you go. Never set aside for tomorrow what you can do, have or become or be TODAY! Love happens when you least expect it. Grab hold and live, live, live! And, Man oh man! Those kisses!!!

'Climb the terrace we've built and come to the edge, and take a look, Olivia. I'm standing right there.'

*plop* oh be still my beating heart <3 br="" nbsp="">
Last man standing? Not so much anymore :D

With Saint & Tahoe being off the market, Callan Carmichael is now the lone surviving most eligible bachelor in the manwhore series. He can be ruthless in business. He has power, wealth and good looks. He is charming, confident and used to getting what he wants, when he wants it. And up until now no one has been able to hold his attention long enough to keep him for more than a night. That is until Olivia (Livvy) Roth comes to town.

Livvy is forbidden and should be totally off limits to Callan but when these two meet there is an undeniable attraction to one another. Neither can fight it and neither wants to fight it. Livvy is young and somewhat inexperienced but don’t let that fool you into thinking she doesn’t know what she wants or how to get it because she does and I loved that about her character. Some of the things that would come out of her mouth before she thought about it was hilarious and both characters had me laughing with their witty comebacks.

"I just wish I had your balls."
" Where exactly do you want them?"

I went into this story expecting one thing and I finished it being pleasantly surprised. I loved the banter between the characters and I adored how the story developed. Womanizer is funny, captivating, steamy, irresistible and romantic. It has a little bit of everything to keep you entertained and coming back for more.

I’m not sure how Author Lauren Layne can manage to make me love her stories more with each one I read but somehow she does absolutely that. Every time I sit down to dive in to one of her books I get that giddy excited feeling because I just know it’s going to be delightful. Someone Like You was more incredible than I could have ever imagined. Lincoln Mathis’s story was like no other that I have read by this Author. It was exceptionally well written and didn’t go at all like I thought it would. Lincoln’s story was not only compellingly emotional but it was breathtaking and it completely stole my heart. It is not one that I will soon forget, that is for sure.

From reading the other books in the series I always thought that Lincoln was your typical playboy that was just out for a good time. Boy was I so wrong about him.

“You must be Lincoln Mathis, the Manwhore of Whom I should beware?”

“You must be Daisy Sinclair, delicate flower to whom I’m not to speak.”

When Lincoln & Daisy meet, they have an instant connection to one another. Daisy recently has been through a lot of turmoil in her life and is a little shy about getting involved with anyone. Lincoln isn’t looking for a relationship at all but these two become fast friends and that is where the story simply grabs your heart and keeps tugging on it right up until the final page.

Someone Like You is humorous, enduring, genuine and beyond heartfelt. It really took my breath away at times. I totally fell in love with it and it is one of my top reads of 2016. What do you do when you have to move on from lost love? How do you let go of what could have been? What should have been?

“You do the only thing you can do, love.”

Review: A Veil of Vines by Tillie Cole

To most people, princes, princesses, counts and dukes are found only in the pages of the most famous of fairytales. Crowns, priceless jewels and gilded thrones belong only in childhood dreams.
But for some, these frivolous fancies are truth.
For some, they are real life.
On Manhattan’s Upper East Side, people have always treated me as someone special. All because of my ancestral name and legacy. All because of a connection I share to our home country’s most important family of all.
I am Caresa Acardi, the Duchessa di Parma. A blue blood of Italy. I was born to marry well. And now the marriage date is set.
I am to marry into House Savona. The family that would have been the royals had Italy not abolished the monarchy in 1946. But to the aristocrats of my home, the abolition means nothing at all.
The Savonas still hold power where it counts most.
In our tight-knit world of money, status and masked balls, they are everything and more.
And I am soon to become one of them.
I am soon to become Prince Zeno Savona’s wife…
… or at least I was, until I met Achille.
And everything changed.

... I lusted for the hit of his taste, the high from the heat of his body.'

Tillie Cole certainly knows how to pen a tangled web of emotions and one heck of a plot into each book she writes, combined with unique, one of a kind intricate story-lines, you know that you are in for a treat. Regardless if you love the book or not, you cannot deny Cole's stellar writing ability. A Veil of Vines takes us in a new direction with her storytelling. It most definitely a rollercoaster ride through the aristocrat elite lineage of Italian history and heirarchy. A powerful story of loss, heart ache and finding your one true love. Your magnet. Your split-half.

'What challenges us, what should break is, can in the end be our greatest blessing. Because our failures make us great. Our most basic of human adversities can inspire within us an almost superhuman strength. Our weaknesses are simply untested wings waiting to be flown.'

While I enjoyed the basis of A Veil of Vines, it did fall flat in areas for me. At times it felt Achille and Caresa were rushed together, just like her move from NYC to Italy felt rushed. Other times the pacing was a bit too slow for my liking and I lost interest, unable to fully connect with the characters. I love falling under the spell of a story, becoming so consumed and enthralled, that I eat, breathe and sleep the book. Again, with AVoV that all encompassing feeling of connection with the book wasn't there. What it boils down to is; ya can't love em all. It kept me intrigued enough to keep reading. There are some juicy lies, familial deceit and justice for all involved! I must say I reaaally enjoyed the last 25% of the book, when everything was picking up pace and coming to a head and #ThatEndingThough! Perfection!

'Because sometimes, just sometimes, the sun and the moon align, bringing two people to the same place at the same time. Sometimes destiny guides them to exactly where they are meant to be. And their hearts fall in a tandem beat and their souls merge as one.'
