Review: Insidious by Aleatha Romig

Insidious (Tales from the Dark Side, #1)Insidious by Aleatha Romig

Dark desires…Deadly secrets…Devious deceptions…Nothing is exactly as it seems in INSIDIOUS, the new erotic thriller from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig.

When a powerful man is willing to risk everything for his own satisfaction, only one woman can beat him at his own game: his wife. Or so she thinks…

“Let’s start with you calling me Stewart. Formalities seem unnecessary.”

Stewart Harrington is rich, gorgeous, and one of the most powerful men in Miami. He always gets what he wants. Anything is available to him for the right price.

Even me.

Being the wife of a mogul comes with all the perks, but being Mrs. Stewart Harrington comes with a few special requirements. I’ve learned to keep a part of myself locked away as my husband watches me submit to his needs. But the more he demands of me, the more beguiled he becomes and that’s to my advantage. So I keep fulfilling his fantasies and following his rules because he doesn’t know that what he’s playing is really my game. And winning is everything, right?

Insidious is a stand-alone novel and the first Tales from the Dark Side title. Due to the dark and explicit nature of this book, it is recommended for mature audiences only.

Oh my God, what the heck did I just read? To be honest this is not the first book I have read by Aleatha Romig so I already knew kind of what to expect (her stories scare me but I have to read them for some reason) but I must admit that woman way exceeded my expectations with Insidious and Victoria’s story.

I won’t be giving too much away in this review as all I knew going into this book was what I read in the synopsis and I think it’s best if anyone reading it doesn’t know too much before they start. I want you to have the same WTH moments I did.

This book will take you on the ride of your life! It had me questioning myself at times and I even had to ask the Author what the hell was wrong with me for thinking and feeling some things that I was. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this book and trust me when I say that I really couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what was going to happen next. It was a twisted, mind blowing story that was brilliantly written in my opinion and I loved every twisted minute of it! I personally would love to see another book written about these characters as the ending had me screaming NO, NO, NO!

If you are in the mood for something different that will take you and your emotions on a roller coaster ride then this is definitely your book just make sure you don’t have anything else planned because you won’t be able to put it down once you start it.

Review : His Jar of Hearts by S.P. Cervantes

His Jar of Hearts (A Broken Fairy Tale #3)
His Jar of Hearts by S.P. Cervantes

Joey McMillian is man that everyone loves. Women fall at his feet everywhere he goes, and men want to be him. Working at the fire department in the small shore town where he grew up, staying close to the only constant in his life, his best friends, has been all Joey thought he wanted in life. While his friends have all found love and started families, Joey bounces from woman to woman, never opening himself up to the opportunity of loving someone and being truly loved in return.

Kat Pierce is a fiercely independent thirty something who knows Joey’s womanizing ways far too well. When she lands a teaching job and moves into her cousin’s house at the shore, she finds herself with Joey more than she would like. There’s always been an attraction between the two of them, but Kat knows better than to act on her feelings. Her heart has been broken before, and she knows Joey is a one way ticket to having it broken again.

Will Joey and Kat find the love they are looking for?

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third and final book in the series. The first two books are Dust to Dust and Wished Away. All three books could be read as standalone I suppose but I feel you benefit more from reading them in order and they have all been 5 star reads for me.

Joey, Joey, Joey….what can I say, you were so much sweeter than I ever thought you could be. Ladies you will love him, he is thoughtful, hot, confident and a firefighter. Don’t think that just because he is sweet that he has lost any of his alphaness (not sure if that's a word?) because he hasn’t. I love male characters that are strong and confident but can still be sweet and loving and Joey was all those and more. Kat is literally the woman next door that Joey has known and been friends with for years, she doesn't take any crap off of him and has no trouble calling him on his BS. Both have had feelings for one another that they always thought it was best not to act on until Joey decides that Kat is the one he wants and just remember what Joey wants, Joey gets!

I fell head over heels for Joey and Kat’s love story. It was beautifully written and I wouldn't change one thing about it. I will say out of all the books in the series I felt this was the sweetest love story. Kat and Joey really did make the perfect couple.

This book has a little bit of everything in and really surprised me towards the end with a twist that I didn’t see coming. The twist will bring out your emotions and really tug at your heart because unfortunately it is something that we are seeing in the news way too much these days. It made my heart hurt a lot and my emotions were all over the place. I do have to commend the Author for writing about it, I know it couldn’t have been easy to tell that part of the story, however I think she did an amazing job at it.

This story was the perfect mixture of drama, love, heartbreak, sex, humor and friendship. I am really going to miss this whole group of friends. I can’t stress that enough but the Author really couldn’t have ended the series any better in my opinion, if it must end!

Thank you S.P. Cervantes for writing such a wonderful series full of love, laughter and friendship! I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each character a little better throughout the series. Your writing has made me feel a personal connection to all of these characters and I will dearly miss them. I can't wait to see what you have in store for us in the future.

Review of Bright Side by Kim Holden

Bright Side (Bright Side, #1)Bright Side by Kim Holden

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Secrets.
Everyone has one.
Some are bigger than others.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you ...
And some will end you.

Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

They both feel it.
But they each have a reason to fight it.
They each have a secret.

And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

Bright Side was a book that I felt deep in my heart, it took me awhile to get into it but I will be thinking about it long after I have read it. It made me look at my own life and left me wondering what would I do? It brought tears to my eyes and left me emotionally drained but honestly I would read it all over again and if I did, I know it would have the same affect on me. I can’t say too much without ruining it for other readers and I don’t want to do that. Just know that this book will definitely tug at your heart and not let go of it even when you are done reading it.

I did fall in love with the characters in this book, all of them. They were a fun group to read about and to spend time with. Keller was so sweet and I couldn’t help but love him right from the very beginning. Kate is very strong & independent and everybody could learn something from her. Not to mention she was just so much fun I wanted to be friends with her! The relationship between her and her best friend Gus is exceptional and everyone needs an unconditional friendship like that! The story was beautifully written and the Author did a wonderful job at making me feel all the emotions of the story.

Review for City of Champions by Chloe T. Barlow

How do you find the will to try, when you've spent all of your life playing on a field strewn with shattered lives and broken rules?

Tragedy and betrayal taught Jenna Sutherland early on that her safest bet was to fiercely avoid any risk, whether it is in work, life, or love. Now a respected orthopedic surgical resident on the cusp of finally breaking through in her career, she’s more guarded than ever.

When injured NFL quarterback Wyatt McCoy bulldozes into her life there’s no denying he’s cocky, selfish, and downright dangerous — everything Jenna’s sworn she doesn’t want.

Suddenly the levelheaded doctor finds herself facing down her greatest fear, and she’s tempted to gamble all she’s fought so hard to build. The two embark on an intense holiday love affair that quickly teeters on obsession, and tempts them both to think they could go all-in on a real future together. Yet Wyatt's desperation to stay on the field — and out of the operating room — lures him to take dangerous risks with Jenna's trust.

Will they win at love or lose everything — including their fragile chance at happiness?

My heart was sucked into this story right from the very start. I just knew that I was going to love it and I was not disappointed. Jenna is a Doctor who last time she gave her heart away got it trampled on so now she has decided to just focus on her career. Wyatt is a football player with a career that is slightly declining due to an injury and he needs to find a Doctor that he can manipulate into saying what he wants them too. He soon finds out that Jenna might not be that Doctor.

When the two of them meet, sparks fly instantly! They both feel it but neither one is willing to cave in to the other. Will Jenna let her guard down and be taken advantage of again? Will Wyatt be able to get what he wants without ruining the best thing that might be happening to him?
I love the characters in City Of Champions! I met most of them (but there are new ones) in Three Rivers (book one) and I instantly liked them. Chloe has a way of making you feel like her characters are your friends and you personally know each one of them. I love that because it gets you vest in their story and you want to see what will happen to each character. I love the girly friendship between Jenna and her girlfriends, I love that we get a glimpse at what is now going on with Althea and Griffen (they are from Three Rivers) and I loved Jenna and Wyatt’s story. They are two very head strong people.Their banter back and forth is funny and their sexual chemistry is off the charts!

Author Chloe Barlow is great at creating strong female characters that aren’t afraid to speak their mind and male characters that can be sweet and caring but still have that strong alpha male side to them which I for one loooove.

City of Champions was a great book filled with just the right amount of angst, drama, sex, friendship and love!

Review for Healing My Heart by Aleya Michelle

Roxy is in a bind...

Should she stay true to herself or should she follow her wounded heart back to her first love?
Back to the one who left her heartbroken and alone.
Who will be the one to help heal her heart?
Will it be Dylan, who started as her re-bound, but has become her strength and her life line over the past few months.
Or will it be Kade, the one who stole her heart and showed her the true meaning of love. Then showed her all the despair, vulnerability and pain a broken heart can cause.
Which path will bring her to her happily ever after?

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Healing My Heart is the second book to Breaking My Heart by Author Aleya Michelle and you should read that book prior to reading this one.

I was anxiously awaiting this book to be released to see what was going to happen next with Roxy and Kade. I fell in love with their story in the first book and wanted to see if they would get their HEA. Healing My Heart picks up where Breaking My Heart left off and is told from different points of view which I really liked. Roxy is currently dating Dylan however she is starting to see that some things just don't seem to be right and it has her feeling a little uneasy. As things start to come to light Roxy must make a decision on who can make her happy and what it will cost her to find that happiness.

This was a good book that made me feel a wide range of emotions and kept me interested from page to page. I'll admit I was team Kade all the way, he stole my heart in the first book so there just wasn't any room left for Dylan.(lol) In saying that though, I was a little surprised at the turn of events that took place. Poor Roxy, she had so much to deal with in this book. I really felt for her at times.

In the end though Roxy will decide who she wants to be with and who can make her happy. Will it be Dylan? or will it be Kade? You'll just have to wait and see :)
