Review: When It's Real by Erin Watt

From #1 New York Times bestselling author duo Erin Watt comes the addictive contemporary tale of a teen rock star in need of an image makeover and the teen girl hired to be his fake girlfriend.

Meet Oakley Ford-teen celebrity, renowned pop star, child of famous movie stars, hottie with millions of fangirls… and restless troublemaker. On the surface he has it all, but with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry, and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley's team decides it's time for an intervention. The result: an image overhaul, complete with a fake girlfriend meant to show the world he's settled down.

Enter seventeen-year-old Vaughn Bennett-devoted sister, part-time waitress, the definition of "normal." Under ordinary circumstances she'd never have taken this gig, but with her family strapped for cash, she doesn't have much of a choice. And for the money Oakley's team is paying her, she figures she can put up with outlandish Hollywood parties and a team of publicists watching her every move. So what if she thinks Oakley's a shallow, self-centered jerk? It's not like they're going to fall for each other in real life…right?

4.5 'Genuine and sweet' Stars.

As a HUGE fan of Erin Watt's Royals series, of course I jumped head first into this book! And blind to boot. I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting other than another epic fictional adventure but man oh man, this duo delivers hard!

Truthfully, it took me a little bit to get into this story but once I'd fallen for the pop star vs. normal girl story line and it's cast of characters I was one smitten kitten. Yes! Parts of this story had me purring *wink* I tried to resist the temptation and general luring that comes with Oakley, but a girl is only so strong to resist such advances. I was a goner.

When It's Real is genuine and sweet. It had me reminiscing back to my younger days of boy band crushes and the whole fascination with the celebrity world as a whole, and young love; stirring up butterflies of fantasies gone by. GAH!

Oakley and Vaughn are complex, a bit complicated with a whole slew of emotional baggage. Though they are teens, it's by no fault of their own. Life is messy whether you're born into wealth and the celebrity life style, or born into the normal world. From the resistant push to the unwavering pull, through ups and downs and personal growth, this story that started as a fake charade turns into one of the most adorable realities. Love is a wonderful thing!

Erin Watt have successfully turned my world upside down with another stellar addition to their literary goldmine of addictive reads! A fresh, new direction for this duo, making When It's Real a top read of 2017.
